A few years ago I went to Mexico. I can’t quite explain what happened to me there, but it was a whole thing. The people have a warmth that isn’t postcard hospitality. It’s a way of existing in the world. And the food. God, the food. Every dish was a declaration that good life exists and that someone cared enough to make it.
I came back different. Not dramatically, not with big revelations. But with a gratitude that stuck. The kind you carry and don’t quite know where to put.
Today Mexico beat South Africa 2-0. I found myself staring at the scoreboard with a smile I didn’t expect to have. And then I realized those vows are still standing. Stay strong and well. And know that I love you with all my heart.
